Several 19th century buildings including Fairfax County Courthouse, Antonio Ford House, Old Town Hall, the Bailiwick Inn Bed and Breakfast, the Fairfax Herald Building and many other historic buildings that display the turn of the century charm of Fairfax.

Truths that Rise from the Roots Remembered is the name of the bronze tree sculpture that honors the contributions of African Americans to the growth of Alexandria. The park also includes a small African American cemetery from the 19th-century.

Civil War Battlefield on the Potomac River hill where the Union fell backward into the river in a defeat that merited a congressional investigation. Home to one of the nation's smallest national cemeteries. Interpretive trail offers self-guided tours. Guided group tours by appointment.

Carlyle House Historic Park

A Georgian Palladian manor house built in 1752 by Scottish merchant and city founder John Carlyle. Here, five royal governors and General Braddock met to discuss funding of the French and Indian War. Tours every half hour.

Christ Church

This beautiful English country-style church was built between 1767and 1773 and was attended by George Washington and Robert E. Lee. Its historic churchyard contains Confederate gravesites. Open Mon-Sat 9 am-4 pm; Sun 2-4:30 pm. Gift Shop offers cards and stationary, artwork, jewelry, Bibles, prayer books and more.
